Ladies and Gentleman, it has happened. The Canadian Dollar has reached parity with the American Dollar.

My first inclination is to be excited about my new found purchasing power in the United States. Perhaps it's time to pay a visit to my friends in New York, and maybe the Wal-Mart electronics department while I'm there.

Of course, such thoughts are merely fleeting fancies. My economics-minded side always gets the best of me, and it's reminding me that despite the shiny new TVs and American vacationing, this is bad for Canada. We'll see how far it goes.
